Key Workout Time

34
My legs have been somewhat fatigued lately but I have yet to fail an important workout unless it was heat related this cycle. Maybe it's from doing 54 miles per week.  Maybe the fatigue is from having to be up at 5AM to run.   Either way, yesterday was another Pfitz lactate threshold run. 12m w/ 7 @ 15K to half marathon pace. I haven't raced since the 4th of July and the buildup of tempo runs has progress from 3, 4, 5 and 6 miles.    My best LT run so far has been 6 miles at a 7:23 pace.  If I plug numbers into McMillan,  a 15K pace for a 3:30 marathoner is 7:26. These runs always make me nervous.  Partially because it tells me a lot about fitness.  But also because running top speed at 5:30 AM without a cup of coffee is just kinda crazy.

I planned for a 2 mile warmup and a 3 mile cool down.  Mile 1 was at 7:22 so I thought I was nailing the pace. When the 7m were done I had run them at a 7:09 pace which is right at my 10K race PR!   The weather certainly helped at 62 degrees.  I'm psyched about my fitness right now, but the worrier in me keeps saying "don't run your race in training".  I know you can't overdo it on a tempo run.  Let's just say I don't want to get too excited just yet.   Lots of time to go.
